WIT 2007 Edition

Congratulations to the class of 2007! You made it through a tough year of packed class schedules, heavy homework assignments, tests, part-time work and job hunting. All the admin staff and faculty members join me in saying well done! We hope you take that sense of achievement with you as you face the next phase of your lives.

You are entering a very challenging world but how you react to your experiences will decide if they are enjoyable or unsatisfactory. The first year in any new job is always a little uncertain as you learn new ways and relate to new people and you may sometimes worry about reaching your goals. Stay focused, keep the picture of success in your head but allow time for it to happen and of course take action to move forward. On receiving his 2007 Oscar, Forest Whitaker, who won the best actor award said, "... It is possible for a kid from east Texas, raised in south-central L.A. and Carson, who believes in his dreams, commits himself to them with his heart, to touch them and have them happen."

Research shows that if we truly focus on a goal and read it out loud every day, we are more likely to reach it. A Harvard professor asked his graduating MBA class to write down their goals and twenty years later, he checked to see who had achieved them. Guess what! Only 3% had reached their goal. And how many had focused on their goals every day, looked at them every day? The same 3%! Make yourself a vision booklet. In it you can write down your goals and paste pictures of what you want to be or what you want to have. Give yourself time to achieve those goals and take action when necessary but stay focused and you will get there. In this edition, Asami Matsushima has provided a step by step guide on how to have fun doing this.

Hiroyuki Kosuge loves meeting new people and learning news ideas as you can see from his interviews. From April, he will be a junior at KUIS where I am sure he will motivate other students with his enthusiasm. Asami has a new interview with the Director of Education, Koji Sano in which she points out the very positive future of KIFL. As part of that positive future, two teachers, Daniel Beck and Malcolm Kostuik have generously donated their free time to make the KIFLcast. Read more in the article, "What is a podcast?" And more on podcasts, our in-house fitness expert, Brian Damm, recently introduced a very good site that students (and teachers) can listen to and learn ways to improve their health. Go to http://fitnessrocks.org/, and scroll down to Sat, 17 February 2007, click on the podcast icon to listen to the benefits of drinking green tea. In the next edition, we plan to introduce a fitness and health section and our first interview will be with Mr Damm who has agreed to act as our advisor.

New in this edition, are guest writers. Kaori Ishikawa puzzles over the meaning of writing an essay and Ai Uchida writes about the responsibility of having a pet. You will also get to meet our new KTW reporter, Kazuki Tadokoro. Expect to see more of his work in the next editions. Eri and Risa Ishizuka write about being a twin. Did you know that we have two sets of twins in KIFL? Perhaps there are more. Let us know if you are a twin as we would love to meet you.

As usual at this time of the year, we are forced not only to wave goodbye to our graduates but also to say goodbye to our regular KTW staff. We shall lose two very valuable assistants, Asami Matsushima and Hiroyuki Kosuge. Both reporters have given their time and hearts in helping to make KTW an interesting read. We are very sorry to see them go but wish them all the best as they walk toward their future.

KTW Reporters, Hiroyuki Kosuge and Asami Matsushima with the Ishizuka twins, Kazuki Tadokoro and Iris Wu.
